Highlights
I mark my highlights in the Martial Arts not in the grades I have received but in the people that I have met on my path.
One of the most influential people I met was my first sensei Terry Dean. Terry was my Judo Coach and took me under his wing for 12 years. Terry was a wonderful bloke and is missed by all who knew him.
Then after various arts I heard about a bloke in Newcastle who did Ninjutsu. I booked on a course and was confronted with a skinny guy with a pony tail.
After around 8 hours of pain it was time to go home and reflect on my opinions of people with pony tails. 2 years later (after I had recovered) I started regularly training at the Advanced Fighting Centre under owner and Chief Instructor John Atkin. It got to the point I was there that much John was going to stop charging me for classes and was going to charge me rent.
Something just really clicked and I knew this is where I wanted to study, and it was John I wanted to teach me. Through John and the AFC I have met other great characters that have helped me on my martial art journey. Not least the other current instructors at the AFC, whom I am very proud to be among their ranks.
Further afield I have another good friend in Keith Porter, whom I class as a teacher and a very good friend. I must admit before meeting Keith I wondered if the whispers were true, and I quickly found out that they were, he is that good!
As for Mr James McNab you have to meet him to appreciate the experience.
